DescriptionInterview with Terry Moody, an economics student at Nottingham. He continues to talk about his difficulties in adjusting to being taught in a sighted environment, being treated as a blind person rather than an individual, and his feelings about current moves to integrate blind children into mainstream education. He talks about his dependence on a tape recorder at university, being accepted socially by other students and people's fears of and attitudes towards blindness. He discusses how he assesses people and forms relationships with women, and his impression that sighted people who have not been in contact with blind people have an emotional response to them without thinking about it. He goes on to talk about the difficulties in communicating what blindness is like to sighted people, emotional prejudices towards minorities - both black and Asian people and blind people - and wanting to be seen as an individual, his own sense of recognition of black and Asian students, and his hopes for his future career. He thinks that schools for blind children lessen the impression of dependence on sighted people and that this impression is contradicted later in life, talks about his knowledge about the long cane and the lack of trained instructors, and his difficulty in reconciling charity appeals with the image of the helpless blind child with his efforts to emphasise the abilities of blind people (tracks 1-8).
