DescriptionInterview with a woman who works in blind welfare, possibly Mrs Hughes, about the limited provision of welfare services for blind people in the North of England. She expresses her belief that blind people should not be segregated, and talks about her large caseload, which is disproportionately made up of older people over the age of sixty. She explains that the problems are those of general welfare, and that there are great problems in trying to get affordable accommodation in older peoples homes, both private and local authority, for her cases. She talks about her preference to place people in their own flats rather than in residential homes (tracks 1-3)

Charles Parker interviews welfare workers and people with visual impairment at a rehabilitation workshop in Blackpool. They talk to him about their work, the achievements that people with visual impairments have made, the attitudes of blind people, people working in blind welfare and sighted society towards services for people with disabilities. They consider what needs to be done to improve rehabilitation facilities and the changes that need to take place in rehabilitation workshops for people to feel that they are taking an active role in sighted society (tracks 4-9)

recording of a meeting of people working at the rehabilitation workshop, with background noise. Most of the recording is taken up with a role call of people attending the meeting but a woman also instructs people in the use of a device for use in the workshop(tracks 10-13).
