Philip Donnellan talks to William Jeffrey in the sheltered workshop in Edinburgh about the difficulties for blind workers to find lodgings and the excuses made by landlords. He talks about prejudice against blind people and other minorities, the way blind people are portrayed in literature, and his view that they are not seen at their best when out on the street and in new environments. He thinks that mobility is the key to changing perceptions, and discusses mobility aids such as the long cane and sonic torch. He talks about getting information about new developments from magazines, the lack of organisation amongst blind people to demand access to new mobility aids and the role of blind welfare agencies (tracks 4-6).
