Interview with Mr Richards. He talks about the condition of total blindness, the differences between people who have always been blind and those who have lost their sight later in life and have a pictorial sense. He discusses his own experience of losing his sight as a young child after having diptheria, his education at grammar school, technical college in Birmingham and his career working in the radio trade, and goes on to talk about losing more of his sight in later life which affected his ability to do his job and carry out other tasks. He discusses the difficulties in navigating around big cities, meeting other people at social clubs for people with visual impairments, and his feeling that the condition of blindness brings inertia and requires people to make a great effort to get around. He thinks that rehabilitation centres are a great help. He talks about his feelings of dejection when he was no longer able to do his job, describes some of the responsibilities of his job in the radio trade, discusses the changes he had to make after losing more of his sight due to cataracts, and explains the views of the opthalmic specialists about his condition (tracks 2-7).
