DescriptionInterview with Mrs Rhodes. She continues to discuss her relationship with her neighbours, her shyness about making contacts with new people and her preference for talking to other blind people rather than sighted people. She talks about her childhood in a children's home at Nuneaton when her father joined the army during the First World War, beginning work as a domestic servant at different locations in and around Birmingham when she was fourteen, and meeting her husband. She goes on to talk about losing her sight soon after her marriage, being happy with the friends she has, and her thoughts and wishes. She describes how she makes contact with people at social events and the kinds of conversations they have, going on holiday to English coastal resorts, and her efforts to live her life as a sighted person and not to let people know she is visually impaired. She talks about her experience of losing her sight, the difficulties she had in carrying out cleaning jobs and how she knows when something is clean. She discusses her consciousness of being watched by sighted people while walking outside and her feelings of embarrassment (tracks 1-6).
