DescriptionInterview with Mr Foster. He continues to discuss the enjoyment he gets from going on walks with his guide dog, how narrates his journey to his dog and has conversations with people he meets, and his fear of getting involved with people when he got his guide dog after a period of feeling isolated when he lost his sight. He goes on to talk about attending a Guide Dog Association training centre at Leamington to learn how to improve his mobility and work with a guide dog, and how he came to trust his dog. He describes the mobility and orientation training he received at Torquay and how he learnt to visualise open spaces. He talks about feeling self conscious that people were staring at him, waiting for him to make a mistake, how he became very nervous and how he rationalised his fear. He talks about the assumption made by many sighted people that blind people are incapable and his own struggle for independence in this context, recounts instances when he has been addressed in the third person and how he felt degraded by this (tracks 1-6).
