DescriptionInterview with Bob Croyman and Roger Hinds, BPROs (Blind Persons Resettlement Officers) at the Ministry of Labour, Five Ways House, Brmingham. Roger Hinds talks about their work in finding training and employment for blind people, making a realistic assessment based on the individual's skills, the use of training and rehabilitation centres and the average ages of those people on training courses. They describe the administrative processes of putting people through rehabilitation courses at Torquay and assessing suitability for employment, and talk about machine skills taught at training courses at Letchworth.
Bob Croyman gives his opinion about the most effective ways to rehabilitate people through employment at their former place of work, discusses negotiating with employers, the involvement of trade unions, and how he deals with the reactions of the managers of firms towards employing blind people. Roger Hinds talks about the support given to new blind employees and the aspects of the job he finds frustrating and rewarding. Bob and Roger both talk about the experiences of some of the people they have been able to place in employment (tracks 1-6).
