| Description | Interview with Mr Clarke, a teacher in Harborne, Birmingham. He discusses his perceptions of movement, the pictures he has in his head about navigating a route, and difficulties in orientation. He describes the use of touch in moving around new places and describes how he navigates around his home. He talks about relationships between blind people, and between blind people and sighted people and the adjustments that need to be made. He discusses the previous segregation of blind people from society and changes that have led to blind people being employed alongside sighted colleagues, and also talks about things that blind people are not able to do and the need for blind people to accept their blindness. He talks about his perception of darkness and sounds, the use of braille maps to travel to different places, and his experiences in walking longer distances with sighted people or partially blind people, including a description of the difficulty in reading signs. He discusses difficulties in travelling across open spaces and his perception of linear travel (tracks 1-6).
