DescriptionJane Eliot, mobility teacher at Torquay, continues to talk about the greater difficulties in being without sight and doing household tasks and bringing up children compared with going out to work. (track 1)

Interview with Brian Varley, social welfare officer at Torquay. He talks about Jane Eliot and her progress, and the lack of interest amongst the wider community in helping people with disabilities. He talks about trying to educate people and change their attitudes and the lack of success. He talks about his anger at people's lack of knowledge and the need to tell people what they can do to help (tracks 2-3).

Interview with Tom Drake, director of the pre-vocational training centre at Torquay. He talks about the reasons for sighted society's reactions and attitudes towards blind people, the historical connotations of blindness, the question of whether blind people would be happier if they did not have to conform to the structures of the sighted world, the desire not to accentuate feelings of difference between blind and sighted people (tracks 4-5).

Interview with Lee Farmer, from Chicago, United States of America, instructor instructor on a training programme for orientation and mobility instructors. He discusses the supposed common heritage of British and American people and his amazement at the differences in customs, approach and ways of thinking, and gives examples of some of these. He points out differences in accents between people from different regions of Britain and considers that the British sense of history and tradition prevents people from moving forward and developing new approaches, including methods of training for people with disabilities, and his impression of the lack of belief in the abilities of blind people in Britain (tracks 6-8).
