DescriptionInterview with a group of women who work as home teachers for people with visual impairments. They talk to Philip Donnellan and Charles Parker about the problems associated with working from home, dealing with their cases according to need and reflect on the ways their jobs have changed over time. They discuss efforts to resolve relationship problems between their cases and their partners, as a result of the disability, their dedication to their job and their doubts about being able to organise to campaign for improvements. They discuss the reluctance of the general public to help people who have lost their sight, their unintentional cruelty due to ignorance, and the need for them to be educated. They talk about disaparities in welfare payments for people who have lost their sight through war service and the integration of home teachers for the blind with social welfare officers working with people with other disabilities. They describe their daily work routine, including administrative tasks, home visiting and teaching classes and activities (tracks 1-7).

Interview with Margaret Scorer from Newcastle. She talks about the loss of her central vision due to a hereditary complaint, describes the physical and pyschological effects this has had on her life, discusses her reasons for coming to the training centre at Torquay and gives details about the help she has received from her home teacher to prepare her for coming to the centre. She talks about not being able to recognise people and her feelings about having to learn new skills (tracks 8-9).
