DescriptionTracks 1 - 2: Actuality with young women and Charles Parker in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. The young women take turns to recite extracts from the verbatim accounts of children to the Child Employment Commission (1842) in their own Yorkshire accents, directed by Parker who records multiple takes. The extracts are about the housing and working condition for children at the time of the testimonies.

Tracks 3 - 5: Actuality as above, but the extracts are read by an adult man, Frank Olive from Oldham. Frank Olive also speaks about his own memories of working in mines in Oldham. He talks about 'big hitters' and 'hand getting' (big hitters were the most productive mine workers and hand getting was the manual extraction of coal). Parker asks him about the impact of the pit closures on his community.
