| Description | Interview with Kevin Mitchell from Derry. He explains the legend of Cuchulan and recounts some of the stories about Cuchulan and the meaning of his name. He discusses the teaching of Irish history in Derry schools from English textbooks and learning about Ireland on his own because he felt patriotic, and being a member of Sea Cadets and having to walk through the streets in a British uniform. He talks about his family background, his sisters, some of whom live in London and Germany, and remembers one of his relatives being arrested. He thinks that his father's political ideas have been influenced by the views he and his siblings holds, and talks about the religious beliefs and behaviour of Irish people, and their anti-clericalism. He describes the structure and influence of the Catholic church in Ireland and his view that it favours the established government although individual priests might hold Nationalist views, and talks about different schools and colleges in Derry, including that run by the Christian Brothers. He talks about learning Irish patriotic songs and enjoying singing Orange songs, being a member of the Gaelic League with Republican political extremists who knew a great number of Orange songs, and discusses some of these. He sings, whistles and hums some of the songs and talks about their origin and use of Irish tunes (tracks 1-11).
