DescriptionInterview with Alex McIntosh and his wife. They talk about associating with people from the Catholic community, and Alex McIntosh discusses working with a Catholic colleague and his good relationship with him. He recounts the story of a meeting addressed by Ian Paisley being attacked, and emphasises that there has been violence on both sides of the sectarian divide. Mrs McIntosh stresses that Catholics have not joined the RUC because they would have to take allegiance to the Queen. The couple go on to discuss voting patterns among both communities, and their resentment about Catholic people claiming social security benefits but wanting nothing more to do with the British authorities. They express their wish for an end to civil disturbances but think that resentment on the Catholic side and fear on the Protestant side are deep rooted. Alex McIntosh discusses the poor housing conditions in the Fountain Street area, the different education that children in Catholic and Protestant schools receive, particularly in the teaching of history, and the need to respect the Irish tricolour flag as well as the Union Jack. He thinks that people need to see the other person's point of view or there is no hope for anyone but is worried about the possibility of civil war in Northern Ireland. He goes on to discuss the need to remember the Fountain area of Derry (tracks 1-7).
