DescriptionRecording of interviews for the 'Battle of St Ann's' project:
Tracks 1 - 8: the interviews are with Mrs Halling (Mrs Hardy?); who is also featured on MS 4000/6/1/66/ 11, the interview is recorded in her home. Mrs Halling is a long term resident of the St Ann's area and with her husband organises youth groups such as Guides and Scouts for the area. A study by local social commentators about the St Ann’s area has categorised the houses as 'slum dwellings' and where many residents are living in 'poverty'. The tracks frequently run into each other.
Track 1: A discussion regarding how in her youth the area was overcrowded and that children had no where to play, then a discussion that more facilities are needed, group activities for children, the organisations that she works with and the participation of the different nationalities in the St Ann’s Guide and Scout packs etc; 3.28 mins.

Track 5: The continuation of a discussion about high rise flats from the previous track. Then a new discussion about the issue of 'problem families' in St Ann’s, this flows into a discussion about problem children in the Guides and Scouts. 2.50 mins.

Tracks 9 - 11: the interviews are with Mrs Sandford; the interview is recorded in her home. Mrs Sandford is a relatively recent resident of the St Ann's area and with her husband she is involved in the church and with the Boys Brigade. The tracks frequently run into each other.
Track 9: A discussion about her personal history, her time in St Ann’s and how she finds it difficult living in the city having grown up in the country. The discussion continues about her move to St Ann’s, how she met her husband and her early impressions of St Ann’s. (A discussion about Lexington(?) and a radio programme Parker and her mother were involved in 15 years earlier). 3.09 mins.
Track 10: A discussion about the terraced houses, the general area and how she first viewed the poverty in St Ann’s, continuing on the next track. 3.12 mins.
Track 11: A continuation of the discussion from the previous track about poverty, personal care and general conditions. 1.24 mins.
