| Description | Recording of interviews for the 'Battle of St Ann's' project: Tracks 1 - 10: the interviews are recorded in the home of with Mr and Mrs Sandford; they continue on MS 4000/6/1/66/14 the interview is recorded in their home. Mr Sandford is a long term resident and Mrs Sandford is a relatively recent resident of the St Ann’s area and they are both involved in the church and with the Boys Brigade. A study about the St Ann’s area by local social commentators has categorised the houses as 'slum dwellings' and where many residents are living in 'poverty', for more information see Sub Series level. The tracks frequently run into each other. Track 1: A discussion regarding the incident of a young boy at the Boys Brigade who had an abscess, this flows into a discussion about the Boys Brigade. This moves onto her opinions about the poverty in St Ann’s and her opinion about how people from outside view the poverty in St Ann’s. 3.02 mins. The discussion then moves to his opinion that there are only jobs with poor wages in Nottingham: he outlines that the local firms are Boots, Rally and Players; in terms of employment this favours women; his opinion is that as women are paid less this brings the wage level down. 3.10 mins. Discussions regarding Mr Sandford's employment history (first employment was with Boots and he now works for the Post Office), covering wages and working conditions. A new discussion about how the area used to be 'Select'/a good area: that has changed since the war and then about poor areas past/present. Track 9: The discussion carries on from the previous track and moves on to parks and facilities for families. A new discussion about the housing conditions and the rent.
