DescriptionRecording of interviews for the 'Battle of St Ann's' project:
Tracks 1 - 5: the interviews are with Mr and Mrs Sandford who are also featured in the previous recording MS 400/6/1/66/13, the interview is recorded in their home. Mr Sandford is a long term resident and Mrs Sandford is a relatively recent resident of the St Ann's area and they are both involved in the church and the Boys Brigade. A study about the St Ann’s area by local social commentators has categorised the houses as 'slum dwellings' and where many residents are living in 'poverty'. The tracks frequently run into each other.
Track 1: Discussions regarding his opinion of local people. A new discussion about the plans for the development of the area. 3.08 mins.
Track 2: The discussion continues on from the previous track, the new houses have higher rents, the residents have low wages which are not rising in line with the rents, so in their opinion the development will not address the issue of residents living in poverty and it will push poorer residents out of St Ann’s to other areas/estates creating new slums. 3.59 mins.
Track 3: The discussion continues on from the previous track regarding moving people into new areas. The discussion moves to her opinions of poverty and the conditions that children are being bought up in. 2.45 mins.
Track 4: A new discussion regarding low rates of pay. 2.39 mins.
Track 5: Sounds of child. 1.04 mins.

Tracks 6 - 1: The interviews are with Mr James Beckham, Maureen Beckham (daughter-in-law) and family (The Beckman Family?); the interview is recorded in their home. Mr Beckham is from Stirling, the family are residents of St Ann’s. The tracks frequently run into each other. Track 6: A discussion of Mr Beckham's personal history: employment, from Falkirk, that illness has led to disabilities. The discussion moves onto their opinion that there is more employment in the area for women, discussion continues on the next track. 2.39 mins.
Track 7: The discussion continues from the previous track regarding employment and that Nottingham is 'famed as a woman's town'. 2.19 mins.
Track 8: A discussion about rents and the costs of running the house. The discussion moves to social security relief. The discussion then covers the house size and layout. 3.08 mins.
Track 9: A new discussion about local people and the community. A new discussion regarding the clearance: about how he feels he has been treated by the council and the communities reaction to the development. 3.47 mins.
Track 10: A discussion about the families on the street where they live. A new discussion about the quality of the construction of the new houses, conditions in the older and newer houses and 'making cosy/houses your own', this continues on the next track. 3.04 mins.
Track 11: The discussion continues on from the previous track regarding housing. A new discussion regarding Mr Beckham's accent and local dialect. 2.49 mins.
Track 12: A discussion about the community working together. 1.11 mins.
