| Description | Tracks 1 - 9: The interviews are with Mrs Hayle; the recording follows on from MS 4000/6/1/66/17, the location of the interview is in her home. Mrs Hayle is 70, has a a large family in the area and moved to St Ann's in 1920. A study about the St Ann's area by local social commentators has categorised the houses as 'slum dwellings' and where many residents are living in 'poverty'. The tracks frequently run into each other. Track 1: A discussion regarding the changes in the neighbourhood; she remembers the friendliness of the area and talks of the older residents passing away. A new discussion about the clearance and local attitudes/action: she believes you must do what the council says and that she has not been involved in any of the action against the development. 3.05 mins. Track 4: The discussion continues from the previous track regarding problems caused by the pork farms factory regarding: complaints, local councillors, council and voting (doesn't believe in voting); the discussion then moves onto her view that she doesn't 'see the point of trying to change things' etc. 3.33 mins. Track 5: Further discussions regarding how she feels about the clearance of the houses and the relocation of the residents. 3.18 mins. Track 6: A new discussion of her employment history: bottle washer, Raleigh factory and the powder factory. A new discussion about entertainment and dancing. 3.27 mins. Track 7: The discussion continues from the previous track regarding employment and 'taking washing in' to earn money.
