| Description | Recording of interviews for the 'Battle of St Ann's' project: Tracks 1 - 2: the interviews are with Mrs Wilson and her daughter who are also featured on the previous recordings MS 4000/6/1/66/6 - 8; the interview is recorded in her home. Mrs Wilson is a long term resident of the St Ann's area; a study by local social commentators has categorised the houses as 'slum dwellings' and where many residents are living in 'poverty'. The tracks frequently run into each other. Then moves on to discussing to how in their opinion St Ann's used to be a nice area. Again the discussion moves onto how hard women used to work to keep their houses nice. The discussion then moves to how the area has become run down because of people leaving and the area degrading/deteriorating; then moves to positive things about the area. Track 7: The discussion continues from the previous track about the children and schools: the children feel an inferiority/embarrassed about admitting they are from St Ann's. The arrival of Mrs Bolter/Walter who talks about the damp conditions in her house and that in her opinion many people are not willing to take good care of the houses. 3.36 mins. Track 8: Discussions carry on from the previous track about general apathy: especially towards: the decoration and condition of houses. Then moving on to discuss wages/earnings and illness. 2.46 mins. Track 9: Discussions regarding the neighbours who have lived there along time, others who have moved away by exchanging with people in newer houses (the old houses have lower rent) and the types of people who have migrated into the area and the condition of the area. 3.37 mins.
