Lawyers and prison officials discuss conditions at Soledad Correctional Facility in California, at which George Jackson, John Cluchette and Fleeta Drumgo are held, the purpose of the facility, work programmes and educational opportunities, the use of strip cells and the conditions for prisoners in these cells which have poor ventilation, light and limited sanitation. The prison superintendent discusses the extent of racially motivated disturbances at the prison, the potential for racial harassment of black prisoners by prison staff, the practice of body searching prisoners, and the use of tear gas. He also discusses the events surrounding the shooting of the prison guard in January 1970. The narrator discusses prisoners statements on the racism prevalent against black prisoners. George Jackson's lawyer discusses the bias of prison officials against her client in their dealings with the media and the need for an investigation into the relations between black prisoners and guards in California's prisons. The programme ends with a recording of an unknown song (tracks 1-22).
