| Description | Recording of an edition of the Granada television programme 'World in Action' focusing on the life and death of George Jackson. The programme gives an account of his original arrest and imprisonment, and his charge, together with John Cluchette and Fleeta Drumgo, for the death of a prison officer, supposedly in retaliation for the shooting of three black prisoners at Soledad Correctional Facility in California. The programme features extracts from Jackson's prison letters, read by an actor, and looks at his political development through spending years in solitary confinement, and his influence on the black civil rights struggle in America and the Black Panther movement. It also focuses on reactions to George Jackson's death amongst the black community and the mood surrounding his funeral, and includes tributes to George Jackson by his supporters and analysis of the psychological effects of prison on young black men (tracks 1-9).
