DescriptionRecording of the third part of a three part documentary programme produced for KPFK News for Pacifica Radio. The narrator of the programme gives details of the shooting of a prison guard at Soledad Correctional Training Facility in California in the days following the shooting of three black prisoners, and the indictment of George Jackson, John Cluchette and Fletta Drumgo for the killing of the prison guard. He goes on to give details about a civil rights action brought against the California Department of Corrections and the prison superintendent by an inmate, because of the conditions he was held in, and the court's ruling that the conditions and types of punishment foster resentment amongst prisoners, and that violence at the prison provoked by prison officers. This final programme continues its examination of the Soledad Correctional Facility. The families and legal representatives of George Jackson, John Cluchette and Fleeta Drumgo discuss conditions in Soledad prison, the racist attitudes of prison officials, and the treatment of black prisoners by the legal system, and political leaders, including black Los Angeles senator Mervin Dymelly and Jim Turner, representative of the Black Legislative Caucus discuss the need for judicial reform. The programme ends with a recording of 'I Wish I Knew How It Would Be to be Free' (tracks 1-18).
