Interview with an unidentified man who discusses the organisation and activities of the JVP (Janata Vimukti Peramura) or People's Liberation Front, government responsibility for failing to deal with the security threat. He discusses the opposition parties' awareness of the JVP and suspicions that the government was encouraging JVP activities to foil the opposition. He goes on to talk about the JVP's abstention from the election campaign, its lack of public open propaganda and its intricate underground organisation and supplies of guns. He considers the involvement of Pro-Chinese groups, the JVP's infiltration of places through the trade unions, and the proliferation of strikes in government organisations. He considers the slow pace of political change and the obstacles presented by the structures of government, the support of the masses for the welfare state but their reluctance to make sacrifices in their existing standards of living, and the associated difficulties in making an assault on the plantations. He talks about attitudes to parliamentary transitions to socialism, the involvement of the middle classes and the possiblity of non-parliamentary methods of struggle raised by the recent insurgency (tracks 2-11).
