| Description | Tracks 1 - 25:
This is the first part of what seems to be a production quality version of the 'Collier Laddie' with Charles Parker, Dave Rogers and others performing. Through song and spoken word, this production described mining work and mining life and made reference to 'the Big Hewer', regarded by many as a mythical figure in the mining industry.
Track 1 opens with a discussion of the looming fuel crisis and the threat to the traditional way of life in mining communities. The figure of the 'Big Hewer' is considered in Tracks 4 - 5 and 17.
Songs include 'The Collier Laddie' (commencing on Track 2) and 'Go Down' (commencing on Track 4) which provide a thread through the production. Other songs include 'Pit Sense' (Track 18), 'Jimmy come Back' (Track 19) and 'By Clyde's Bonny Banks' (Track 21) which are concerned with the dangers faced by miners and the pressures and distress faced by mining families because of this.
Track 23 considers the social aspects of colliery life and includes a song 'In the Bar-room'.
