Tracks 1 - 6 are a continuation of the Banner Theatre interview with Ken Woods, Head Caretaker at Alumwell Comprehensive School and Community Centre. Tracks 7 - 14 record an interview with Dave Whittacker, director of school and community activities at the site.
Ken outlines the impact of public sector cuts on cleaners and services. Working hours, supplies of paper towels and energy conservation measures are considered (Tracks 1 - 2). Discipline and vandalism in the school is discussed (Tracks 2 - 5). Ken's views on the 'Prefect' system in schools are recorded (Track 2) and the need for effective community involvement and student participation in lessons and school governance are debated. Peterlee New Town in County Durham is referred to (Track 5). There is also a discussion of contemporary divisions within the Labour Party as well as comments on the 'Social Contract'.
Dave Whittacker describes the community aspects of Alumwell School, and the nature of provision for education, sport and community participation. The catchment area for community activities is noted as being much wider than the local council wards of Bentley, Caldmore and Pleck The centre's regional role is identified as both a strength and a point of contention for some local residents (Tracks 8 - 9).
The structure and responsibilities of the Centre's Community Council (Track 11) and Management Committee (Track 12) are discussed, and relations between the school and community elements of the complex are considered (Tracks 12 -14). Dave also describes his employment background and interest in community education (Track 7).
