Track 1 is a recording of an unspecified broadcast concerning the impact of public expenditure cutbacks at Selly Oak Hospital. The proposed transfer of Birmingham Accident Hospital to the site is referred to.
Tracks 2 - 15 record a meeting of Redditch Action Committee. Charles Parker gives a brief introduction to the work that they have been commissioned to undertake by NUPE, and the wider perspective that the action Committee can give is identified (Track 2). Tracks 2 - 4 concern the normal business of the committee meeting. Tracks 4 -6 concern school governors and their potential for highlighting the negative impact of public expenditure cuts. A range of views about school governors are offered, including those of NUPE (Tracks 4 - 5), the National Union of Teachers (NUT) (Track 5) and Redditch Trades Council & local Labour Party. (Track 6).
An insight to aspects of Redditch Action Committee is provided by Tracks 6 - 9. The committee's newsletter is discussed (Track 6) and organisations affiliating to it are noted (Tracks 6 - 7). The changing attitude of the Transport and General Workers' union to the committee is reported (track 6} and there is a discussion of the Trades Council's response to calls for an industrial stoppage in protest at hospital cutbacks (Track 7). Tracks 8 - 10 consider proposals for a leafletting campaign and petition against cuts and the dispute between North Worcestershire College and Redditch College is noted (Track 9).
Tracks 10 - 15 are concerned with public perceptions about local authority rate increases, to protect public services. A call is made to educate the public over what is provided out of the rates and to reduce waste incurred by decisions made by councillors and managers of local authorities. An assessment of the calibre of councillors at Hereford and Worcester County Council is given (Tracks 14 - 15).
