Charles Parker discusses the unions' campaign against closure proposals for Hounslow Hospital, and management's reponses to this. The close working relationship between NUPE and NALGO is described (Tracks 1 & 12) and support from the AUEW is noted (Track 14). Plans for resistance are considered (Track 3) and a description is given of the transfer of patients from the occupied hospital (Tracks 14 - 15). Management tactics are criticised (Tracks 13 - 20) and comparisons of management provocation are drawn between this case and the Grunwick dispute (Track 13).
Tracks 18 - 21 consider the recent unionisation of nurses and a critique of the Royal College of Nursing's approach to management is given. The role and impact of agency nurses within the NHS is considered (Track 19).
Track 21 is an interview by Charles Parker of the head teacher of the nursery school at Benson Road, Winson Green. She refers to the recent interview undertaken by Parker of the Mothers' Group and she describes her personal career in nursery teaching.
