DescriptionTracks 1 - 21

Track 1 is a continuation of Charles Parker's interview with Doctor Rod Griffiths of 14 October 1977. This examines the obligation of medical professionals trained at public expense to impart that knowledge back to individuals and communities.

Tracks 2 - 21 cover a joint conference of public health trades unions, held at Digbeth Civic Institute on 15 October 1977. Charles Parker and Dave Rogers (?) record proceedings. Shop stewards and branch representatives attending the conference are drawn from a range of unions, including NUPE, COHSE and the Transport and General Workers' Union.

The conference has been called because of rank and file discontent that union leaderships have ignored national conference resolutions and have restricted wage settlements to meet government requirements. Speeches are made and support expressed for industrial action in support of wage claims that breach the terms of this Social Contract.

Tracks 9 - 11 consider the position of women workers within the public sector and a call is made for trades unionists to renounce any suggestion that women workers should give up employment in favour of men.
