This is the first part of an interview by Charles Parker with ambulance personnel based at West Bromwich Ambulance Station. A description of this station is given in Track 9, whilst the campaign to save the station is noted in tracks 10 - 11. The effects of cutbacks and operational changes at West Midlands Metropolitan Ambulance Service are discussed, and the impact of the new control centre at Harborne is considered (Tracks 2 - 3).
The duties of ambulance crews are mentioned, and also the effect of cutbacks. Incidents encountered whilst on duty are recounted. Difficulties in assisting patients in high rise blocks are discussed. There are also observations about the state of some patients and their houses, as well as medical conditions. The technical and operational merits or otherwise of ambulances and medical equipment are examined.
