| Description | Elizabeth begins her letter wishing her parents 'many, many, many, many, happy, happy, happy, happy, mery, mery, mery, mery Christmasses & New years' followed by lots of exclamation marks. Elizabeth thanks her parents for their letters and the money which they had sent to her and writes that both she and her sister Margaret (Pearlie) were 'mad with joy' about their Christmas parcel. The girls had collected their parcel on Saturday 21st December, Elizabeth writing 'we have the box!!!!!!!!!!' She thanks her parents 'millions' for sending everything 'beautifully', including the cake, pudding and sweets which she had requested. The box had also contained the sash which Elizabeth had asked for and some ribbons and velvets. The Taylors had also sent books and dresses for both girls as well as scent bottles, letters, cards, mince pies, cottons, photos and gloves. Elizabeth writes 'thanks millions of times!!!!!!' on many occasions throughout the letter. Elizabeth expresses her astonishment that it had taken only four days for the parcel to arrive from England, and notes how she was 'mad with delight'.
Elizabeth notes that the girls had been given their school certificates, or reports, on Friday 20th December. Elizabeth describes hers as 'not extra good', and comments that she had been called in to see the school's principal Miss Trinks who had remarked that Elizabeth 'had not made as much progress' as Miss Trinks had expected. |
