DescriptionElizabeth remarks on the long days of the summer holidays, providing an account of her recent activities which included rehearsing for a forthcoming musical performance. She describes a recent holiday in the town to commemorate the birthday of the King of Russia and Emperor of Germany. Elizabeth refers to her parents' visit to Saxe-Meiningen, asking them to bring her younger sister Josephine along with them. Elizabeth notes that she had been 'very idle' and enquires whether any flowers had bloomed in her garden at home. Elizabeth asks about her family and friends back in England and comments on the girls at her school, many of whom were the daughters of military officers, as well as referring to a recent music examination which had not gone well.
