TitleLetter from Elizabeth Taylor to Mary Jane Taylor
LevelItem
Date[n.d. 1872 - 1873]
DescriptionIn this letter Elizabeth refers to a recent argument with her sister Margaret. Elizabeth writes that she had 'made it up' with Margaret, adding that their school life would not be so happy if they weren't together in Saxe-Meiningen. Elizabeth provides an insight into her struggles with school life and her Quaker faith. She writes:

'sometimes I think that Christ has given of his Spirit to me, & that I am one of his children, & then something goes wrong, & all is dark & miserable again, & when I pray to God it does not always give me light & happiness, for we have only a German sermon.'

Elizabeth adds how she was missing her father's words and prayers when he led Quaker worship for the family at home.
