TitleLetter from Elizabeth Taylor to Janet Taylor
LevelItem
Date29 March 1872
DescriptionThis letter, addressed to 'dearest Jane', was written by Elizabeth to her younger sister Janet Taylor. Elizabeth tells her sister about her activities in Germany, writing that she had recently tried playing new musical instruments including cymbals and drums. Elizabeth includes an amusing story about a schoolmaster who had hidden behind some furniture playing a triangle.

This letter was written over the Easter weekend in 1872, Elizabeth referring to Good Friday and Easter Sunday later in the letter. Elizabeth notes that she had been reprimanded for being impertinent because of her poor German pronunciation. Despite this, Elizabeth remarks that her German was improving, enabling her to understand and participate in conversations at the dinner table.

Elizabeth writes about the good weather in Germany and the walks which she had been on, commenting on the intense heat before concluding with remarks on family matters.
