| Description | These watercolour sketches were painted by Elizabeth Taylor whilst she was at school in Saxe-Meiningen, mainly during her final year at the school in 1874. The sketches, which are dated but untitled, show a variety of German scenes, including the mountains and three views of a lakeside town, possibly Saxe-Meiningen. Elizabeth Taylor's letters to her family written during this period reveal that she enjoyed rambling in the mountains around her school and walking down into the town, suggesting that these paintings may feature scenes from in and around Saxe-Meiningen. |
