TitlePapers relating to Elizabeth Taylor and the Senior Cambridge Examination
LevelSub Series
Date1875 - 1876
DescriptionThis section contains Elizabeth Taylor's University of Cambridge Local Exam Papers for the Senior Cambridge Examination which she took and passed in ten subjects in December 1875. The section also contains a letter sent to Elizabeth Taylor's mother Mary Jane Taylor by Elizabeth's uncle, Alexander Reed, congratulating Elizabeth's parents on their daughters' success.

Alexander Reed married Mary Jane Taylor's sister Selina Cash, establishing a household in North London. Elizabeth Taylor lived with her aunt and uncle Reed and their family at their home in Tufnell Park during the week whilst she attended the North London Collegiate School between 1874 and 1876. As children, Elizabeth Taylor and her siblings often played with their four cousins from the Reed family at their grandmother Elizabeth Pettifer Lucas Cash's house in Dorking. The Reeds had three sons and one daughter. Harry Reed became a civil engineer, his brother William became a specialist physician and Frank Reed became an inspector of schools in the West Indies. The only girl in the Reed family, Bessie Reed (later Elliot), was particularly close to Elizabeth Taylor during her childhood and adolescence.
