DescriptionIn this letter Maria Miall thanks Elizabeth (Elsie) Taylor for her recent letter which included details of her 'foreign travels' and 'amusing proceedings'. Maria Miall describes her new post as a governess in Dorset teaching two children named Compton and Ida Read. Commenting that she was 'very comfortable' in her new home, Miall writes that she was learning to ride on the Read family's horses and had recently attended a large party with Mr. and Mrs. Read. She also writes about the school timetable which she used to teach Compton and Ida and describes the 'most charming' scenery around their home, noting that she had been sketching. Maria Miall concludes her letter by asking Elizabeth about her studies at school in Saxe-Meiningen. She also enquires about Elizabeth's teachers and school holidays.

Maria Miall gives her address as Maria Miall, Mrs. Read, Manor House, Thornford, Near Sherbourne, Dorset.
