| Description | This section contains family correspondence exchanged between Elizabeth Taylor, her parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, cousins and friends during her childhood and adolescence up to her 21st birthday on 24th June 1879. Many of these letters were exchanged between members of the Taylor family whilst they were visitng relatives away from home. Many of the letters contain descriptions of social activities and remarks concerning family welfare.
A number of the letters written to Elizabeth Taylor by her mother Mary Jane Taylor were sent to Elizabeth whilst she was living with her uncle and aunt Frederick and Martha Goodall Cash in Gloucester. Examples of correspondence sent to Elizabeth Taylor as a very young child by her grandmother Elizabeth Pettifer Lucas Cash are also featured alongside correspondence between Elizabeth Taylor and her aunt Caroline Barrow (nee Cash) and letters written by Elizabeth to her father John Taylor whilst he was staying in Ireland. A letter from Elizabeth Taylor's paternal grandmother Elizabeth Taylor is also contained within this section as well as letters sent to both Elizabeth and her elder sister Margaret Taylor by their aunt Elizabeth Taylor (nee Cash).
In addition, this section contains papers relating to the death of Elizabeth Taylor's childhood pet, her Pomeranian dog Oliver Twist, known as Twist. These papers include a lock of Twist's hair dating from 1875. |
