DescriptionThrough her family heritage, her involvement in Quaker philanthropic work and role as the co-founder of Woodbrooke Quaker College in the early twentieth century, Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury became prominent within national religious life, particularly amongst the Society of Friends and other Nonconformist groups. In 1925 she was elected the first female President of the National Free Church Council (Federal Council of the Free Churches) and throughout her life she maintained a close and active involvement in Quaker ministry in Birmingham. In January 1926 Taylor Cadbury was invited to deliver a religious address for the BBC's Sunday Evening Service, the first to be broadcast from their new studios in Birmingham.

This section contains documents relating to this broadcast which was delivered by Taylor Cadbury on 24th January 1926. In addition to a typescript of Taylor Cadbury's address, the section contains a large number of letters sent to Taylor Cadbury relating to the broadcast. A number of these letters refer to her ill health during January and February 1926 when she was suffering from sinus problems. Many letters also include comments about radio broadcasting revealing public perceptions of this popular medium. Taylor Cadbury's address was later printed in 'The Friend', the journal of the Society of Friends, and a number of other publications.
