Title'An Easter Message' by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury, printed in 'Women's Leader & Common Cause'
LevelItem
Date1925
DescriptionElizabeth Taylor Cadbury contributed this message to 'Women's Leader & Common Cause' in her capacity as the first woman President of the Federal Council of the Free Churches. Exploring the importance of Easter as a time of change, hope and enthusiasm, Taylor Cadbury asks 'can hopes inspired by the Easter story reach down to the depths?'

In her message Taylor Cadbury refers to her work teaching a class of women at the Severn Street Adult School in Birmingham. Remarking that these women lived 'in the courts and back streets of a big city', Taylor Cadbury describes the power of the Easter story in creating 'joy and laughter, and a looking forward.' She also includes references to the works of Benjamin Disraeli.

At the conclusion of her short message, Taylor Cadbury states that the gift of Easter 'is friendship with a risen and victorious Christ...the embodiment of Hope, of eternal Youth, of never dying enthusiasms', emphasising Christ's potential to transform 'dreariness into splendour'.
