DescriptionThis section contains handwritten, typed and printed copies of public addresses, broadcasts, reminiscences and publications written by or about Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury between 1885 and 1958, alongside related correspondence. In a paper exploring her interest in writing written between 1948 and 1949, Taylor Cadbury remarked on these public documents, suggesting that her:

'Written addresses may be classified under the following headings - Religious ones, those on Education and Social Service, Presidential ones connected with the N.C.W. or Free Church Council, and notes on Broadcasts'.

Reflecting the variety of written addresses described by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury, this section contains a large number of public addresses relating to her work with the National and International Councils of Women, as President of the Birmingham Branch of the Parents National Education Union and her role as President of the National Free Church Council. Taylor Cadbury also wrote and delivered many addresses relating to her views on education and the Christian faith in the wider world, considering the role of women within religious life and the importance of Christian fellowship in work supporting the development of international relations. In addition, the section also features public addresses which Taylor Cadbury was invited to deliver at local events such as her address to the congregation of St. Martin's Parish Church in Birmingham.

Alongside public addresses, this section contains broadcasts delivered by Taylor Cadbury appealing for donations towards hospital services in Birmingham and the typescript of a broadcast delivered in 1958 celebrating the centenary of Taylor Cadbury's birth delivered by her daughter-in-law Joyce Cadbury. Amongst the most important of Taylor Cadbury's broadcasts was a paper which she delivered on the radio in 1926 for the BBC's Sunday Evening Service. The typescript of this address and a large amount of correspondence which Taylor Cadbury received relating to the broadcast are featured in this section.

Between 1948 and 1949, around the time of her ninetieth birthday, Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury published some memoirs of her long and active life in local newspaper the 'Birmingham Mail'. A handwritten copy of these reminiscences and longer typed versions of her memoirs are included in this section.

In addition, a large number of typescripts survive in Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's personal archive which were produced for publication in a variety of journals, reflecting the scope of her public work. Articles which Taylor Cadbury submitted for publication in journals related to the Religious Society of Friends such as 'The Ploughshare' feature here alongside articles examining a wide range of issues from women's work in education to disarmament. A large number of clippings from articles published in newspapers relating to Taylor Cadbury's life and work also feature in this section.

This extensive collection of public addresses, broadcasts, reminiscences and publications provides an extremely detailed insight into Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's views on an enormous variety of subjects. The documents reflect the scope of Taylor Cadbury's public philanthropic work and her active involvement with local, national and international groups working towards social reform throughout her life.
