| Description | Writing from Windmill Cottage, the Manor House, Mr. C. Barrett served as estate carpenter to the Cadbury family, employed by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury and her late husband George Cadbury to maintain the Manor House and gardens in Northfield. A close friend of Taylor Cadbury and her family, Barrett and his wife wrote following her election defeat, expressing their surprise at the result. Commenting on Taylor Cadbury's experience and influence, the Barretts remarked on 'the ungrateful manner' in which Taylor Cadbury had been treated by many of the people who had benefitted from her efforts 'to make the condition of the working class so much better and healthier'. |
