| Description | This section contains two papers written by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury following her defeat at the 1923 General Election. One of these addresses was published as an article and one was delivered as a public address at a meeting of Liberal Party supporters. The papers provide details about the political situation in Birmingham during the early twentieth century and the reasons why voters were reluctant to elect a Liberal Party candidate, returning a Conservative Party Member of Parliament for the Kings Norton ward. Taylor Cadbury also provides an account of the 'slanderous and malicious' methods employed by the Labour Party in their election campaign, examining the differences between their self-interested policies and the social reform which was aimed for by the Liberal Party. Affirming her allegiance to Liberal ideals, Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury calls for the establishment of a Progressive Liberal Association in the Kings Norton Division. |
