TitleLetter from Miss Shanti Rangaroo to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury
LevelItem
Date28 April 1936
DescriptionReferring to Edna Gowan's letter, Miss Shanti Rangaroo, a member of the governing body of the Central College for Women in Nagpur, wrote to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury expressing her gratitude for Taylor Cadbury's kindness in providing a scholarship to enable a student from the Friends' school in Sohagpur to attend the College.

Rangaroo comments on 'the great need' for educational institutions for women in India, suggesting that 'women's education' was a central problem in the country. Describing the work of the Central College, she suggests that it aimed to 'give something more than a mere academic hallmark of a degree', teaching subjects 'more suited to the needs of our women' including sociology and 'home science', encouraging 'more intelligent social service'. Rangaroo also remarks on the 'fellowship' which had developed amongst the students living and studying at the residential college, who came from 'all castes and creeds'. Rangaroo concludes her letter by inviting Taylor Cadbury to visit the Central College if she returned to India in the future.
