| Description | Elizabeth Taylor notes that, owing to being short of time, she had decided to send her elder sister Margaret (Pearlie) a postcard. Elizabeth thanks her sister for her 'wonderful packing' and all the help she had given her in preparing for her trip to Switzerland.
Much of the postcard refers to arrangements for Elizabeth Taylor's return home, Elizabeth asking her sister if she would collect her from the train station at Herne Hill. Elizabeth also refers to plans for their aunt Martha Goodall Cash to stay with the Taylor family on the evening when she returned home. She asks Margaret to persuade their aunt to stay elsewhere, revealing that she had gone to Switzerland in place of her cousin Gertrude, aunt Martha's daughter. Elizabeth suggests that her aunt would be resentful on hearing of all 'the jolly places' Elizabeth had seen on her tour.
Please note that although the postmark on the front of the card dates this item as 5th September 1883, Elizabeth Taylor states in the postcard that it was written the day after her final letter to her mother which is dated 2nd September 1883. The item has therefore been dated as 3rd September 1883. |
