| Title | Letter from George Newman to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury |
| Level | Item |
| Date | 17 January 1941 |
| Description | In this letter George Newman remarks how often he had thought of Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury during 1940 and wishes her a happy new year. Newman comments on Taylor Cadbury's 'splendid life', remarking on her 'greatly inspired youth', her marriage to George Cadbury, their family, and Taylor Cadbury's 'stewardship' in service of God. He describes her life as 'a glorious record'. Newman suggests that Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's recovery after falling from a train and breaking her hip at the Gare de Lyon in 1939 had shown her 'lion-heartedness'.
George Newman recalls George Cadbury's blessing to him on his marriage when Cadbury had described life as 'a stewardship of God's manifold grace'. Newman describes Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury as 'a great & good Lady of England & her Empire'. He also describes how his home in Middlesex had been bombed, remarking on having experienced 'three months of noise & explosions, & no sleep or rest of any sort'. He regrets having left his 'books & papers, the collection of 50 years' behind when forced to move to Leominster. He remarks however, that he had completed his work and published his book 'The Building of a Nation's Health' before the outbreak of war.
Newman's letter also includes political comments. He writes 'poor Neville Chamberlain - poor broken hearted man' commenting on former British Prime minister Neville Chamberlain and remarks on Ramsay Macdonald describing him as 'another broken-hearted' Prime minister. Newman concludes his letter with brief reminiscences, sending Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury 'the Love & Comfort of God' which he describes as 'our lasting joy, & which no bombs can ever destroy'.
