TitleLetter from Cynthia Colville to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury
LevelItem
Date07 July 1948
DescriptionThis letter from Cynthia Colville, secretary to Queen Mary (1867-1953) refers to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's invitation to Queen Mary's Garden Party on 22nd July 1948. Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury was unable to attend the event as she had planned a holiday in Ireland with her daughter. Colville's letter expresses the Queen's regret that Taylor Cadbury would be absent from the party. She remarks 'the persistence with which pleasant engagements clash is in strange contrast with the smooth running of the most tedious!'

Cynthia Colville also remarks that Queen Mary had 'greatly enjoyed' her visit to an Exhibition which Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury had been involved with, noting that the Queen had found it 'an inspiring collection and beautifully arranged'.
