TitleLetter from Percy Bigland to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury
LevelItem
Date28 July 1908
DescriptionThe letter from the Quaker artist Percy Bigland refers to portraits of Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's daughters Dolly (Elsie Dorothea, born 1892) and Mollie (Marion Janet, born 1894) which Bigland had been comissioned to produce. The letter reveals that Bigland was basing these portraits on photographs which Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury had sent to him and a number of sittings at the Manor House in Northfield. Bigland writes 'I am quite longing for the time when you can have both the portraits hanging in a good light in your own home.' He thanks Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury for her 'constant kindness' to him during sittings at the Manor, noting what a 'great privilege' it had been for him 'to enter into something of the beauty of your home atmosphere.' Bigland also refers to 'the Congress work' which both he and his wife Edith were involved in, remarking on an enthusiastic party of guests that were staying with them.

Bigland concludes his letter by sending his love to Dolly & Molly and includes a postscript adding 'Edith sends her love'. He notes that Edith was 'immersed in work for the Congress'.
