DescriptionAnnotations on this paper reveal that it was intended for circulation amongst Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's sisters and female acquaintances. In this essay Taylor Cadbury recounts an inhospitable journey across Europe which took her from Calais to Cologne and then on to Denmark and Sweden, describing the differences in temperature and weather which she had experienced. Taylor Cadbury writes about visiting friends in Sweden, remarking on their 'social manners & customs', the number of languages which people spoke and the talents of their acquaintances including a Miss Adelborg who wrote and illustrated children's books. Taylor Cadbury also remarks on the different attitudes to women who were professionally employed which she had encountered in Sweden, commenting that women there were also allowed to vote.

Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury concludes her paper remarking on the treacherous weather which she had experienced on her return journey to England, remarking that 'either the cold or some other great force in Scandinavia generated and developed a very happy, hearty, healthy minded and fine race of men and women.'
