| AdminHistory | Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's ninetieth birthday on 24th June 1948 was celebrated widely by family, workers at the Cadbury family's chocolate factory in Bournville and the many friends she made throughout her long life devoted to public philantrhopic work. Delamont describes the birthday celebrations held in Taylor Cadbury's honour at the Manor House which were attended by one hundred and fifty relatives. Scott writes that Taylor Cadbury's ninetieth birthday celebrations were 'the crowning point' of her 'last strenuous happy years'. She describes the large number of telegrams, letters, cards and gifts which Taylor Cadbury received and also the numerous deputations of people who flooded in to the Manor House to offer their congratulations. Delamont remarks that thirty eight of Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's grandchildren attended the family party held to commemorate her birthday at The Davids, the home of Taylor Cadbury's eldest son Laurence John Cadbury, which was also attended by thirty four of her great-grandchildren. Scott notes that, typically characteristic of Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury, she left her birthday party early to attend a meeting of the governors and staff of the United Hospitals at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham. The meeting marked the final gathering of staff and governors before the United Hospitals were amalgamated under the auspices of the National Health Service in 1948. Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury served as President of the United Hospitals in Birmingham, which incorporated the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the Medical School at the University of Birmingham in Edgbaston and the city's General Hospital, from 1941 to 1948. |
