| Description | Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's ninety second birthday was celebrated on 24th June 1950. This letter was sent to Taylor Cadbury by her close friend H. G. Wood on behalf of Friends from the Bournville Meeting.
Many Friends had been present at the special meeting for worship held at the Friends' Meeting House in Bournville on Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's ninetieth birthday on 24th June 1948 when Evelyn Sturge had given a rousing speech in honour of Taylor Cadbury. Wood expresses the Meeting's 'love and good wishes', stating 'may tomorrow be a day of real blessing and refreshment of spirit.' His letter also refers to the 'ties' between Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury and the Bournville Meeting, describing how she was constantly present in the 'thought and prayers' of many Friends. Wood concludes his message quoting from John Donne's poem 'The Anniversary', adding that his wife Dora (Dorothea Wallis, 1883-1959) would deliver the greeting to Taylor Cadbury at the afternoon garden party being held to celebrate her birthday.
H. G. Wood also wrote a poem to Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury commemorating her eightieth birthday on 24th June 1938. |
