| Description | This 'Card of Membership' for the Young Women's Christian Association of Great Britain is signed by Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury and dated 26th July 1926, during the period in which she was serving as President of the Midland Division of the Y.W.C.A. The card states that in joining the Association Taylor Cadbury declared her faith in Lord Jesus Christ and her 'desire to serve others in His spirit of love.' Elizabeth Taylor Cadbury's card is stated as being from the Divisional Office Branch were Miss Eveleen Downes was Secretary. Downes had worked for Taylor Cadbury as a governess to her children, serving later as Taylor Cadbury's private secretary before leaving to undetake the post of Y.W.C.A. Secretary in 1920. In 1936 Taylor Cadbury and Downes were appointed President and Secretary of the newly formed Birmingham Division of the Y.W.C.A. |
